Geocache Description:

Royate Hill Nature Reserve is quite something – a nature reserve on top of a viaduct! Doesn’t get cooler than that!

Situated on a former railway embankment which was constructed in the 1870s to form part of the Clifton Extension Railway.

The site was compulsory purchased in 1996 and designated as a Local Nature Reserve by Avon County Council after a five year high profile campaign by Avon Wildlife Trust and local people to save it from development.

The 'Friends of Royate Hill Nature Reserve' is an active volunteer group that's involved with the maintenance of the site.

There is so much to see here – I am sure you will really enjoy your visit. Look out for the Coombe Brook which flows under one of the railway arches, the view of Greenbank Cemetry, mosaics, the Moon Temple and the grass roofed hobbit house.

You are looking for a large-ish cache but please bring tweezers for retrieving the log. BYO pen.

This geocache is placed with kind permission from 'Friends of Royate Hill Nature Reserve'.

Street parking available on Greenbank View Road or start your walk along the viaduct from Clay Bottom road.

The nature reserve is not buggy or wheelchair accessible.
