Geocache Description:

This Letterbox Hybrid has been placed to celebrate my 6,000th find.

Please note: This cache is only available between sunrise and sunset.

Letterbox Hybrid

Letterboxing is an intriguing “treasure hunt” style outdoor activity. Letterboxers hide small, weatherproof boxes in publicly-accessible places (like parks) and post clues to finding the box online on one of several Web sites. However, clues to finding some of the most highly-sought boxes are passed around by word of mouth.

NB: Follow the treasure map carefully.

A sense of adventure and a bit of imagination may be required to find the chest and access the log book.

Welcome to number 6,000

(There are two different methods listed below.
Follow the instuctions or project waypoints.)

Starting from the posted coordinates:
You are standing outside a grass hut. Look up on the roof of the hut. How many fronds are there?
The number of fronds = AB [The fronds are the metal ribs on the top of this structure]
(Project a new waypoint AB/2 m 3BA° from the posted coordinates)

Next
Take a walk around the hut until you find the tap.

How many bolts hold the tap in place? (You need to be at the largest tap.)
The number of bolts = C
With your back to the tap, look down at the nearby well
It is small, square and made of concrete with a metal cover. Read the letters on the cover.
Find the cardinal letter. Your next projection is in this direction
(Project a new waypoint A+B+C m ?° from WP1)

Next
Walk ten paces toward the setting sun. [Walk West 8 metres]

Here you will find a short flag pole in front of a tree.
On this pole is a yellow flag with seven numbers on it.
The numbers = DFGHJKL
G+H = X

(Project a new waypoint KL m   X° from WP2)

Next
Turn right and walk thirty paces until you reach more trees.

Look for a large object that is not a tree or a hut.
You are now very close to the treasure. Take a look around this solid object.
Once you find the chest you must make your mark within to claim some of the booty...

But firstly you will need to find some keys.
The first key you seek is at the top of this page. To use it you must climb the tree and find the safe.
Inside the safe you will find a clue for key number 2. Hint * Cptn. Cook*
The third and final key is silver and shiny. It is attached to this clue.
Now down to the ground and take a look around. Find the chest and open it with key 2.
Inside you will find another lock. For this you will need the third key.
Open the final lock to discover the treasure and stamp. There is also a journal for your entry.
Please return everything to where it was found. Make like a monkey, then return to the ground.

This regular geocache is a letterbox hybrid and it contains some pens and pencils, a logbook and a stamp. You can use this stamp to record your find in your own album. If you don't have your own stamp you can use mine to stamp the logbook or maybe draw a small picture. Alternatively, you may just write your geocaching name (and maybe a short story of how you found it) in the book.

BYO: Pen, pencils, stamp, autograph book etc.

In this Letterbox you will find:

  • A stamp. This stamp is part of the Letterbox.
Please leave it in the cache when you are finished. Thank you.
  • Some pens and pencils. (It is always a good idea to bring your own stamp, pen or pencil and a stamp album to record this stamp.)
  • Room for Travel Bugs and Geocoins. (Check carefully; there may be some trackables here.)
  • Some swag already in the cache. (Please trade fair. If you take an item, please leave something of equal or greater value.)

Please replace the stamp after you log your visit and replace the letterbox and the key exactly as you found them. Thank you, I hope you have enjoyed the adventure.

Please don't leave anything in the outer container, including trackables, swag, throwdown logbooks or fish.
