This is the third cache to be set in the Olde Smith Farm series. The cache is named for the number of hackmatack trees lining this narrow trail, found on the west side of the Post Road.
There is an old road on the opposite side of the Post Road to the cache trailhead. In the summer there is room for two vehiles there. Be careful crossing the road as the vehicles here are moving at a pretty good clip.
In spring and summer you should probaly wear rubber boots as the trail is often wet. While on the trail notice the mixed stand of poplar, birch, spruce, fir and pine trees....it is a nice trail to walk/snowshoe and feel the beauty of the forest. The trail winds all the way past the cache to a power line, which will be the location of the fourth cache in this series.
Along the trail search for the cache. In it is a pencil and improvised log book only. The container is a camoed plastic bottle. Please be sure to snap the container tightly shut all around, as it has a tendency not to close easily...thanks!
Enjoy your walk\snowshoe in the woods and search for the other two caches in the Olde Smith Farm series, if you have the time.
