Eel of Sutherland
Earl of Sutherland? Certainly sounds like it.
If eels are your thing, then spend a moment watching them swim around in the rockpool near the Viewpoint.
If the idea of eels nibbling your toes makes you squirm, then you better be careful not to fall in!
Sutherland Stream drains most of Blenheim's stormwater for the areas East of Howick Road, and South of about Hospital Road.
This includes Harling Park, Mt Vernon Track, and roughly three gullies of the Wither Hills Farm Park. That's a lot of water.
Sadly it's also a lot of rubbish, as any rubbish which gets left on the road is free to wash into the stormwater drain.
Sutherland Stream drains directly into the Ōpaoa River, and straight out into the ocean.
There are no filters or fancy equipment to remove any trash from the water.
So think about that next time you consider dropping even the smallest piece of trash.
Everyone can do their bit to keep their patch clean and free from trash!
At the Viewpoint co-ordinates, you are looking at Sutherland Stream disappear thru the paddocks before it ends in the Ōpaoa River.
This cache is located near the entrance to Whitehead Park, home of Brooklyn Croquet Club and Whitehead Bowling Club.
The cache is fairly easy to attain, but isn't ideal for trackables. There is ample privacy from nearby houses, but be aware of muggles walking or driving past.
Please take a walk to the Viewpoint co-ordinates to see the area which the description speaks to.
Have fun!
Special thanks to Kiwimykl for some caching supplies to give me a boost.
