Geocache Description:

This cache was originally placed some ten years ago as the "Gold Bonus Cache in Black Rock Mountain State Park" (GC26FP3) as part of the Georgia State Parks Geocaching Challenge.  Finding State Park caches in forty State Parks, and then finding the "Bronze Bonus" and the "Silver Bonus" cache qualified you to hunt this one.   That original Geocaching Challenge has ended, a new one started in 2021, and the old caches were all archived and removed.  This park now has a new challenge cache located along the Lake Trail.

However this was such a special place, and Park Manager Jessica James kindly gave permission for the container to remain and be relisted as a traditional cache to highlite the Tennessee Rock Trail.

The yellow-blazed 2.2 mile Tennesee Rock Trail, winding its way through some of the highest and lushest forests, is the park's most popular hiking trail.  Rated by experienced hikers as "easy to moderate", the trail offers most visitors a perfect opportunity to get better acquanted with the area's rich woodlands and vistas, that on clear days span over 80 miles into the neighboring states of both North and South Carolina, as well as Tennessee.

The effects from an EF-2 tornado are clearly visible on the trail's western edge, as hikers begin the climb to Black Rock Mountain's summit.  While the damage to the forest is saddening to an extent, downed trees have enhanced vistas at several points along the trail and opened up the thick woods for new growth.

Above two paragraphs are from the park's official trail map and trail description leaflet.  For a lot more information there is an excellent guide to the Tennessee Rock Trail writen by a past park manager, Tony Lamprose, and available for a nominal charge at the park headquarters and shop.

The cache is at it's original location, and consists of the original container and log book to retain the history of those who found the "Gold Bonus Cache".   There is a new section of that log book for those who now find the cache.  Enjoy!
