Welcome another member to the Lake Superior Chronicles family!!!
This cache takes you on an adventure to Mutton Island! This little quaint island is located straight out from Mission Marsh Conservation area on Lake Superior.
During the spring and summer months, Mutton is home to a few different bird species. Gulls and pelicans can be found nesting on the island while eagles frequent the island to perch on the trees in search of fish on the shoals that surround Mutton. In the winter the island is full of ice sheets that crashed into the island from the waves before the bay freezes. For the lucky few who will venture across the ice in the winter, keep an eye out for green ice. It is really beautiful and worth the walk just to see it!!
There are a few cautions that need to be taken venturing to this cache:
VIA WATER - If visiting via a motorized boat, you might want to keep a good eye on the depth. It can get shallow fast!! Larger boats are not recommended near this island!!
VIA ICE - Make sure to check the ice condition and thickness before walking across. There are some great websites to help with this!! Ice picks are always a good idea.
I hope you enjoy this cache!!!
