At Two Guns, go to the abandoned gas station right at the exit (south side of the freeway). It's a short walk to the cache site from the parking area at the gas station or you can drive down the adjacent dirt road to the cache. CAUTION: RATTLESNAKES AND OTHER WILD CRITTERS so stay safe and alert.
APACHE DEATH CAVE STORY
The Apache Death Cave, located just south of the Two Guns exit on Interstate 40, is the purported site of a major battle between Apache and Navajo warriors in 1878. 42 Apaches had taken shelter in the underground cavern after attacking a Navajo village and kidnapping three Navajo girls. The Navajos then lit a fire at the mouth of the cave to smoke the Apaches out. Trapped, the Apache warriors died from smoke inhalation.
Although long a popular story, a number of historians have in recent years raised questions about whether the story is true. Regardless, it is a fascinating part of the ruins and relics to be found at the Two Guns exit.
