Geocache Description:

A side trip from the Beaver Run Nature Trail at Hickory Knob State Park.

Hickory Knob State Park is the real resort of the SC Parks system. It has an 18 hole golf course that is as well maintained as any in the state, lakeside cabins and lodging, a conference center, skeet shooting, historical sites, hiking trails, tennis, etc. It's worth planning a vacation here. Now the park has a Geocache site. As I've done with other caches at state parks, I discussed the cache with the park management before placement and the site has their blessing. Please park in designated parking areas only or risk a ticket. (Park rangers are licensed law enforcement officers.) The cache can be reached from either the clubhouse parking lot or the lodge lot. The trek is not overly difficult, but it goes through overgrown, snaky and potentially boggy areas. It is not recommended for small children. If you don't have a boat, the water between the mainland and the cache is rarely over waist deep and is usually less than that. The bottom is muddy.
