Geocache Description:

Historical monument denoting the location of Patrick Henry's home here in Henry County, Virginia.

Revolutionary patriot Patrick Henry resided in my home county, Henry County, obviously named for him, for a few years following the Revolutionary War. A few years after he took up residence here, he received a land grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia for 2,125 acres of land. During his residence in Henry County, he represented our area in the legislature for several terms, ultimately becoming Virginia's first Governor.

A monument to commemorate Patrick Henry's residency in Henry County was erected at the border of his property, and that is what you seek for this cache.

I visited this site numerous times trying to figure out how to place a traditional or micro at this historically significant location, but due to the fact that there's a house located directly across the road, I couldn't fathom that it wouldn't draw suspicion and get plundered. No back way in, no alternate access, no way to make a physical cache there. For that reason, I can't see any other option than to make this a virtual cache, much to my chagrin.

In order to get credit for this cache, either post a picture of the monument with your GPSr shown (without detail sufficient to provide the information described below, please!), or, for those without access to a digital camera, e-mail me the beginning and ending years of his residency, and the year the monument was erected as shown on the monument. An internet check reveals that there are a few sources from which this information can be learned, but there is discrepancy from the dates reported and those actually shown on the plaque at the monument, so you won't be able to cheat!

The monument is located on State Route 620, also known as Old Liberty Road. Maps will show you that US 220 Bypass is nearby, but please note that there is no exit from the Bypass to Route 620, so you will have to find an alternate means of arriving at the site!
