Questa cache fa parte di una serie che vi condurrà al forte di Campolongo tramite un facile giro ad anello.
Dopo un lungo tratto pianeggiante si giunge ad un crocevia che raccorda il sentiero 810 (quello che stiamo percorrendo), il sentiero che sale dal rifugio di Campolongo e la strada che prosegue verso il forte. Prendere quest'ultima direzione (ben segnalata da un cartello segnavia). Dopo qualche centinaio di metri sulla destra della strada è possibile ancora vedere la grande cisterna che serviva come serbatoio d'acqua per il forte (siamo in zona carsica e l'acqua in superficie è tutt'altro che abbondante!). Proseguendo sulla sinistra troverete un punto panoramico dal quale è possibile ammirare la valle dell'Astico (prestare molta attenzione perchè non ci sono parapetti). Il contenitore è nascosto in posizione sicura tra le rocce di un muretto a secco vicino al punto panoramico; potrebbe non essere raggiungibile in caso di nevicata abbondante.
This cache is part of a series that will lead you to the fort of Campolongo through an easy loop ride.
After a long flat stretch you reach a crossroads that connects path 810 (the one we are traveling on), the path that climbs from the Campolongo refuge and the road that continues towards the fort. Take the latter direction (well marked by a signpost). After a few hundred meters on the right of the road it is still possible to see the large cistern that served as a water tank for the fort (we are in a karst area and the surface water is anything but abundant!). Continuing on the left you will find a panoramic point from which you can admire Astico valley (pay close attention because there are no parapets). The container is safely hidden among the rocks of a dry stone wall near the viewpoint; it may not be reachable in case of heavy snowfall.
Il percorso
E' possibile parcheggiare l'auto in prossimità di "WP1 - Spiazzo Garibaldi" e poi proseguire a piedi lungo la strada sterrata che si dirige sul versante ovest della montagna (sentiero 810). In alternativa è possibile partire dal rifugio di Campolongo; anche qui c'è un comodo parcheggio ma è a pagamento. Seguendo il giro ad anello proposto il percorso sale senza strappi verso il forte ed è quasi tutto sotto il bosco. Il forte si raggiunge in poco più di un'ora di cammino. Dal forte si può poi tornare verso il rifugio passando per il bosco nero tramite un pittoresco sentiero che conduce alla caverna dello Sciason. L'escursione può essere programmata anche d'inverno con la neve, dato che la strada viene normalmente battuta e può essere comodamente percorsa con le ciaspole o ramponi (se la nevicata è abbondante un paio di cache potrebbero non essere raggiungibili).
Il dislivello totale è poco più di 250 m. Sulla parte più alta del percorso, a circa 1700 m, è situato il forte Campolongo, da cui si può godere di una vista superba sulla sottostante Val d'Astico.
The path
It is possible to park the car near "WP1 - Spiazzo Garibaldi" and then continue on foot along the dirt road that heads towards the west side of the mountain (path 810). Alternatively, it is possible to leave from the Campolongo refuge; here too there is a convenient parking but it is paid. Following the proposed loop, the route climbs smoothly towards the fort and is almost all under the wood. The fort can be reached in just over an hour's walk. From the fort you can then return to the refuge passing through the black forest via a picturesque path that leads to the Sciason cave. The excursion can also be planned in winter with snow, since the road is normally beaten and can be comfortably covered with snowshoes or crampons (if the snowfall is abundant a couple of caches may not be reachable).
The total height difference is just over 250 m. Fort Campolongo is located on the highest part of the route, at about 1700 m, from which you can enjoy a superb view of the underlying Val d'Astico.
