Geocache Description:

This temple was built in 1571.
The temple is actually on a slightly elevated plateau, which in the Heian period (794-1185) was an island called Matsukojima, surrounded by the sea. To the west of the island, there was a shallow sea called "Ayuchi-gata".
Because of the Ayuchi-gata, the area was called "Ayuchi", which in turn became "Aichi". There is a record that the area was already called "Ayuchi" in the Kofun period. This later became "Aichi-gun" and then "Aichi-ken" when the prefecture was abolished during the Meiji period.
