Geocache Description:

Welcome to Butterfly Valley! The oasis to some species of butterfly, one in particular is the Cairns Birdwing. The landowner here has planted native Rainforest vine which is the host plant to the Cairns Birdwing - the caterpillars love to munch on their leaves and form a chrysalis. As these butterflies are protected fauna in Queensland, it is recommended to leave all stages (eggs, larvae, pupae and adults) to fend for themselves but by cultivating their host plant - Aristolochia tagala and growing near nectar producing flowers for the adult butterflies, they should eventually establish themselves in your garden. Take a look around the front entrance while you're here with the magnifying glass provided in the Cache (if you can find it ha ha!). Please leave inside for future geonerds. You may be able to spot grubs that look like Heimlich (pictured above).

Other species found here are the Ulysses butterfly and the Luna moth.

There is also camping by donation just beyond the butterfly entrance but is only accessible by 4wd. And trust me this is definitely a fourbie only track (the stones are massive). Bookings may be required around holidays.

Happy caching!!!
