This short adventure will give you an introduction to the illustrious past of East Clacton, evidenced by its large and expensive hotels, almost all of which are now demolished or have been converted into flats. Clacton-on-Sea was an immensely popular holiday resort, from its initial development in the late Victorian period until its gradual decline, starting in the early 1970's with the advent of cheap foreign package holidays. With its miles of sandy beaches, busy pier, several theatres and proximity to London, accessible by road, rail and by steam paddle boats that docked at the pier it is easy to see why. The most expensive and luxurious hotels were located on the sea front to the east of the Pier, and there was a golf course in the area where 'The Gardens' residential area was constructed in the interwar period. All answers need to be entered numerically, without symbols. The locations are not sequential so you can do them in whatever order is most convenient for you.
