Geocache Description:

Drone Image of Two Rivers

Welcome to The Wildlands Conservancy's Two Rivers Preserve.  This 2,483-acre preserve is a landscape comprised of ancient volcanic centers,  glacial moraines, river-carved canyons, and montane meadows situated at the base of the Sierra Nevada and Sweetwater Mountains in Sonora Junction, California.  The preserve protects sagebrush steppe, wetland meadow, riparian, lake, and forest habitats.  These habitats sustain a wide range of wildlife including bi-state sage grouse, mule deer, black bear, bald eagle, trout, red fox, mountain lion, and more.  The preserve is open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and fishing.  The Kirman Lake Trail off Highway 108 is the most popular area of the preserve and provides access to one of the best-known trout fishing spots in the region.

The cache is hidden on the top of a flat mesa that provides cache seekers beautiful views of the confluence of the West Walker River and Little Walker River.  This area was slated to be closed to the public to build multiple seasonal vacation homes.  The Wildlands Conservancy purchased the land in 2015 to save the area and continue to keep it open to the public.  In 2018, lightning started the Boot Fire that burned through the area.

Good hiking shoes are recommended for this cache.  There is a "trail" that takes you close to the cache site near the USGS gauging station.  This cache is not recommended when the preserve is covered in snow unless you have the proper equipment to reach the cache area.

You are looking for a regular-sized pelican case geocache.  A logbook, pen, FTF token, and The Wildlands Conservancy stickers are the original contents of the cache.
