Designed to store gun powder and explosives, this Powder Magazine is part of the heritage listed Avoca Police Precinct. It was built in 1860, one year after the nearby police station/residence.
The term "keep your powder dry" means to be ready for an emergency, and originated from when soldiers had to keep their gunpowder dry in order to be ready to fight in the event of an attack.
(Note: The lovely people in the house across the road are aware of the geocache, so no need to worry if they are watching.)
We wish to thank Perpetually Lost for the container, which was won at their celebration event in March 2021.
