Growing up in New Zealand, I used to watch the America's Cup yacht racing after Team New Zealand became a powerful force in the world of yahching. The America's Cup is a series of yacht races held rougly every three years. This time it was held in Auckland, New Zealand since they were the defending champions from the 2017 event.
In March of 2021, they defeated Italy and won the 36th racing of the America's Cup, winning "The America's Cup", affectionately known as the Auld Mug.
Over the years, the boats have radically changed from a regular looking yacht, to what they are using now where the boat is bascially flying. It's an impressive sight for sure!
Back in 1881, during the 5th running of the Cup, a 5 year old yacht club, called the Belleville Yacht Club entered the competition. They did so well finishing second overall being beaten by the New York Yacht Club who has the most wins in America Cup's history.
