The Copano Bay Causeway Fishing Piers will be fondly remembered by many as two of the best fishing spots on the Texas Coast. The original Copano Bay Causeway was an almost 2 mile long, 20 foot wide, wood and concrete bridge. It opened April 16, 1931, as part of the Hug-the-Coast Highway (TX-35). There was a drawbridge near the center of the causeway which allowed boats to pass. October 20, 1966, the LBJ Causeway opened to traffic, replacing the old structure. This new bridge had a 50-foot clearance over the boat channel and two 15-foot lanes. The old causeway had a 500-foot section removed to allow boat traffic and was turned over to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to operate as a fishing pier creating over 6,000-foot pier on the north end and over 2,000-foot pier on the south end. In 2005, the fishing piers were transferred to the Aransas County Navigation District ACND, which upgraded the facilities including boat ramps, restrooms, parking lot, and observation area on the south side. In 2017, two sections near the end of the south pier collapsed (without injuries) and the piers were declared unsafe. Demolition started on August 31, 2020 and was complete by the end of September 2020.
The container for this puzzle cache is not at this location. However, you do have to go here to get information to solve the puzzle. When you arrive, you will find a unique sign. Part of the sign is white with black letters and part of the sign is black with white letters. Many thanks to the Aransas County Navigation for being fully cooperative and enthusiastic regarding geocaching within their properties! We also want to thank to 8Nuts MotherGoose for the puzzle and to MiMi&PaPaC for the geocache.
Copy the three words from the sign and fill in the top row of the grid below. One letter per square and no spaces.
In the 2nd row, determine the Value of each Letter where A=1, B=2, C=3, etc. For double digit values, use only the last digit (Z=26, Value=6.)
Using the New Code and the numbers above each code, determine the location of the Final Container.
Use the coordinate checker to check your answer.
