Ferry Dock
At 6:15 each morning, the first wave walks down the gang plank and onto Gene Smith's ferry with hard hats under their arms and steaming cups of coffee.
By the time the last ferry of the morning departs from Thorofare, NJ, about 250 workers have made the 7 minute journey to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, many as their fathers did before them. They are among the last survivors at the nation's oldest, and most efficient, naval shipyard.
