A "ghost" is often a metaphor for the weight of the past.
This cache was a long time in the making. First, because Rocky Point has a long history. Second, because it took me a long time to get it completed and submitted!
The Rocky Point land is littered with so many ruins. To me it feels heavy with history, phantoms and ghosts of the past. The area where the cache is located has a spooky feel and originally inspired me to place a Halloween themed cache. However, 2020, being the year it was, that didn't work out.
The area where the cache is located may have been a party or camping spot and/or dump site at some point. The parking area was once the front yard of a house associated with the amusement park which also sat abandoned for many years. There are old foundations and stone walls located just off parking lot. Several yards ahead is the old saltwater pool, which has been filled in now for several decades. On the other side of the old paved road are remnants of the flume, train tracks and sky liner ride, but there is so much more history in this land than that of the amusement park.
Like so many who grew up in New England, I have many memories of Rocky Point amusement park and was sad to see it close, so visiting now is often bittersweet. It is now one of my favorite places to explore.
You are looking for a regular sized, camouflaged tupperware container located off trail. You will be on the edge of a marsh, that is prone to flooding, with swampy areas all around. Be prepared for wet muddy conditions at any time of the year and be aware of broken glass, bugs, poisonous plants and prickers in the area. It is possible to approach from Aldrich Ave, but there is no parking available there and you will still have to cross a part of the swamp.
Rocky Point is a beautiful place, there is beach access, several trails and other caches in the area, so enjoy your visit!
Please remember Swag Rule #1: if you take something, leave something of equal or greater value. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE: DO NOT PLACE FOOD OF ANY KIND IN A CACHE! Thanks and Happy Geocaching!
