The village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell was once two separate parishes, hence having two parish churches. St Agatha’s in Brightwell has its own CM cache (GC6N9XF) but that for St James was archived some while ago so this is its replacement.
The Church
The little church of St James’ in Sotwell (the name probaly means 'South Town Spring') is built in the form of a chapel on a site first recorded in 1158. The present church was rebuilt in the Victorian era.
Because of its small intimate nature, St James’ is entirely suited to the quiet Communion Service held there most Sundays (except when prevented by Covid19)
The Cache
The cache is located just outside the church grounds and is as uncomplicated as the building. Those with short arms and legs will need help to retrieve it.
