Geocache Description:

Fabio Casartelli (born 16.08.1970) was an Italian racing cyclist from Como, Lombardy, Italy.  He was the last Olympic champion on road amateur in the Olympic Games of Barcelona in 1992. On July 18th in 1995 Casartelli died during a terrible crash in the descent of the Pass of the Portet d'Aspet not far from here, during the 15th stage of the Tour de France 1995. The memorial was placed here by The Société du Tour de France and his Motorola team. The memorial is a sundial arranged such that the sun's shadow highlights three dates — his birth and death and 2 August, the day he won his Olympic Gold Medal.

To find this cache you do not need to enter the road. Instead, follow the small wall behind the memorial to find the tree shown in the spoiler picture.
