Geocache Description:

Harrowsmith Cemetery is a large rural cemetery in the second largest village of the former Township of Portland, which since 1998 has been one of four wards in Township of South Frontenac. The gravestones go back as far as the mid-1800s, pioneer families that aimed to make a living off of the mostly-not-very-agriculture-friendly lands found in the area. Four men who died during Canada's war efforts are buried here:

  • Private John Leslie Watts, Canadian Army Medical Corps, 32 years old, died in 1920
  • Bombardier Richard Boon, Royal Canadian Artillery, 45 years old, died in 1944
  • Leading Aircraftman Kenneth Leeth Anson, Royal Canadian Air Force, 33 years old, died in 1941
  • Pilot Officer Gerdan Frederick Snyder, Royal Canadian Air Force, 24 years old, died in 1943

Thank you to skyye53 for the original homemade cache container. It was fitting for the location but unfortunately it didn't age too well. A more traditional cache container is now in its place.

Enjoy your visit and, as always, with locations like this, please be respectful.
