Geocache Description:

This geocache has been created by Eastbourne Studio Pottery (ESP) working with rough sleepers who have been rehoused during the pandemic, as part of the Rough Sleeper Initiative. Through ESP, rough sleepers are accessing a range of creative workshops in printmaking, photography, painting and pottery to support well-being and develop skills and interests.  Making this cache is an opportunity for them to share their experience of life in the town with other people.

The contents of the cache have been made in clay, a material that is incredibly malleable and responsive to the maker's hand and can be transformed into an infinite range of designs. Our history is intrinsically linked to how we have used this 'earth' both for functional necessity and economic or cultural power. Our cache makes use of this material both in its disguise and reward to share some experiences of sleeping rough by the sea.

The cache is sited in Warrior Square Gardens in Central St Leonards, an area used by many rough sleepers. After a number of thefts and vandalism the cache is now locked to a tree in the mian garden area.
