Dellwood Dairy was at 1295 Marconi Blvd, Copiague, and was one of the only five companies providing milk for all of New York City, for decades. Until a New Jersey company spent millions challenging New York State licensing laws, and finally won, New Years Eve, 1985. Farmland entered the New York market and the Milk Wars began. The profit margin on milk is slim, and when the new competition entered, the price of a gallon of milk pushed downward. Although the true year it was established is difficult to confirm (1889 or 1932) we do know it dissolved in 1993. The 5.9 acre property that Dellwood Dairy inhabited was sold in 1999 for just under a million dollars. It is now Bunt Commons, a 55 year old an over community. How much does a gallon of milk weigh?
