2021 Calgary Spring Fling - Saturday, March 13th - 28th, 2021
Originally known as "Lyall," Lyalta is a contraction of the names "Lyall" and "Alberta." Harry A. Parsons, of the Lyall Trading Company, suggested this alternative to avoid duplication with another Lyall also located in Alberta. The original charter for construction of the line was awarded to the Alberta Midland Railway, which was taken over by the CNR before its completion to Lyalta. The post office here opened in 1923. Now a hamlet, it is under the jurisdiction of Wheatland County. - Concise Place Names of Alberta, edited by Merrily K. Aubrey
Come on out for a drive into the bustling metropolis of Lyalta, and enjoy your drive down the street! Located to the north is a more modern community with the fancy name of "The Lakes of Muirfield," along with a golf course. We thought the grain elevator in Lyalta was a pretty unique design. It has the Canada Malting Company sign on it, but we weren't sure if the elevator was still in use. Enjoy your visit!
