This underground portal is actually the start of the Palos Colorados Trail. For kids that were raised in the area it has always been affectionately known as "Creepy Tunnel". Back in the day when Oakland was going through some growing pains, this tunnel was filled with junk, graffiti, and unpleasant smells. We used to dare each other to walk through it but nobody would take the bait. Times have changed for the better and now hikers and bikers use this as the connector between Joaquin Miller Park and Diamond Canyon.
