The Turtle Head Recreation Area was the site of a large saw mill in the 1800s. Lumber was king in the Bangor area and the Sterns mill employeed over a 100 workers. All that is left is some scattered brick and stone and the remainer of the large wharf along the Penobcot.
The park is seasonally open from April 1 to November 1 and closed 11:00 PM until 1/2 hour before dawn.
Good luck and thanks, Gordy_bd
