O lugar dos Remédios, no concelho da Lagoa, é um local muito típico, onde a maior parte dos residentes trabalha em “serviços” e na lavoura. Tem uma Ermida, uma Casa do Espírito Santo, uma associação… e é nesta freguesia que se localiza o Posto do Turismo do Concelho da Lagoa, que se encontra num antigo “posto de leite”. É também nesta zona que se situam alguns dos trilhos mais importantes e visitados deste concelho, em particular o trilho da “Janela do Inferno”.
“A Ermida dos Remédios foi fundada por Pedro Velho Cabral ou de Travassos (?-1517), sobrinho materno do descobridor de Santa Maria, Gonçalo Velho Cabral, que no seu testamento datado de 19.11.1511 informa ter vinculado a sua terça para que esses bens permaneçam “místicos com a ermida até ao fim dos tempos”. O fundador foi sepultado junto ao altar, em sepultura que recebeu depois a sua segunda mulher e o seu filho primogénito, assinalada por lápide gravada onde se podia ler que ele e sua mulher Catarina, mandaram fazer esta ermida “para se nela haverem de deitar quando falecerem da vida deste mundo”.

The place of “Remédios”

The place of Remedies, in the municipality of Lagoa, is a very typical place, where most of the residents work in “services” and in the fields. It has a chapel, the “ Casa do Espírito Santo, an association… and it is in this parish that the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Lagoa is located, which is located in an old “milk station”. It is also in this area that some of the most important and visited trails in this municipality are located, in particular the “Janela do Inferno” trail.
“Ermida dos Remédios” was founded by Pedro Velho Cabral or Travassos (? -1517), maternal nephew of the discoverer of Santa Maria, Gonçalo Velho Cabral, who in his will dated 11/19.1511 informs that he linked his Tuesday so that these goods remain “mystical with the hermitage until the end of time”. The founder was buried next to the altar, in a grave that later received his second wife and his firstborn son, marked by a gravestone engraved where it could be read that he and his wife Catarina, had this chapel made “so that they could lie down when pass away from the life of this world ”.
