Geocache Description:

We are proud to present Janus Fortress: Folkestone, a Waterfronts commission by Chilean artist Pilar Quinteros, and a GeoTour treasure trail of caches made by local communities to be discovered in sites across Folkestone.

Two Geocaches are waiting to be found in Folkestone. Inspired by the work of artist Pilar Quinteros, Creative Folkestone have worked with local communities and sound artist Joel Cahen to create ambient audio works. Look out for birdboxes that perhaps look slightly out of place to find out how to hear the soundscapes.

Inside the birdbox container you will find a logbook where you will find a QR code. Using your smart device, scan the code to be taken to an audio file. Don't forget to sign the log book before you leave!

This Geocache takes you to Payers Park in the heart of Fokestone's Creative Quarter. Around the park are shops, cafes, artist studios, creative spaces and more. Payers Park was originally designed as an artwork as part of the Folkestone Triennial in 2014 and is now a space for everyone to enjoy.

A special thank you to Mind members and students from Turner Free School for creating the audio artworks for the Geocaches.

This artwork is presented as part Creative Folkestone Triennial 2021.

Folkestone Triennial is the flagship project of Creative Folkestone and the largest exhibition of newly commissioned work presented in the UK.  Artists are invited to use the town as their gallery, utilising public spaces to create striking new art that reflects issues affecting both the town and the wider world. Four Triennials have taken place attracting more than 440,000 visitors.
