About Shiloh Baptist Church:

The Shiloh Baptist Church in Tuckahoe is almost 110 years old and still going strong. Shiloh Baptist Church was named after its mother church in New Rochelle. It began as a mission in the home of Mrs. Pearl Casten around 1910 at 53 Breckenridge Street (now Columbus Avenue). In 1913, Reverend William Slater the Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church of New Rochelle moved the congregation into the Lyceum Building at the corner of Underhill Street and Columbus Avenue, under the pastorate of the Reverend William Lovings.

In 1915 the church moved to 73 Columbus Avenue and was pastored by the first Reverend Houston. The church then moved to 38 Washington Street where it stayed until 1925. In 1921 the church purchased a stone building at 15 Marble Place, its present location, and in 1925 began to conduct services there. The second Reverend Houston was a highly respected member of the community and served the congregation for many years. In an attached 1983 article, Pauline Jones said, "He's the kind of man who will help anybody, whether they are a member of the church or not."
