About the Railroad Spur:
The railroad spur was built soon after the railroad arrived for the marble trade in 1844. This spur was used to move marble and other goods from the industrial area of Marbledale Road through WWII. The railroad eliminated the labor-intensive marble transportation of the early days. The dray wagon (with no sides) pulled by draft animals moved marble overland to barges on the Hutchinson River, which gave them access to the Eastchester Bay in the Bronx.
The spur tracks (patched over) ran east from the existing railroad, crossing over Columbus Avenue to Circuit Avenue, then to Marbledale Road and the lime kiln.
