This is the second-ranked shrine in Owari Province, and that is paired with the nearby Tagata Shrine.

Festival to pray for a good harvest are held at both shrines. At the festival, the male’s symbol is paraded on a portable shrine at Tagata Shrine, and the female’s symbol is paraded at here.
While that of Tagata Shrine is a male’s symbol itself, that of Ohagata Shrine is likened to something else and there is shyness.
However, it is an open fact that it is the center of the festival, showing the generosity of ancient surnames for sex.
This shrine enshrines the ancestors of the Niwa clan, who had been based in the northeastern part of Owari since before the 4th century. The Aotsuka Old Tamb(GC585QA), which is about 4km west of here, is said to be his tomb, and there has long been managed as the site of Oagata Shrine.

祭りで練り歩く神輿に乗るのは、田県神社が男性の象徴なら、こちらは女性の象徴。しかし田県神社のそれがドストレートに男茎型なのに対し、大縣神社のそれは別物に模したものとなっており、そこには恥じらいが漂います。
とは言え、それが祭の中心であることは公然たる事実であり、田県神社とともに古代の姓に対するおおらかさを見せてくれていて、むしろ潔いとさえ思えるものです。
ここは古墳時代以前より尾張北東部を拠点としていた丹羽氏の祖を祀っており、ここから西へ道一本4kmほどのことろにある青塚古墳(GC585QA)はその祖の墓と伝えられており、長らく大縣神社の社地として管理されてきていました。
