Salamina Island - General Information
Salamina is the largest island of the Saronic Gulf and nearest to the coast of Attica. Only 1.200 meters away eastward to Perama and 500 meters from Megarid coast to the northwest. The island’s area consists of 93.5 square km, with approximately 100 km of coastline, and a population of 38.959.
Salamina is the birthplace of the Homeric hero, Ajax, the great tragedian Euripides, and the creative venue of our national poet, Angelos Sikielianos. Additionally, Salamina was the beloved place of hospitality and refuge of Georgios Karaiskakis, a national hero of the Greek War of Independence. Salamina is renown throughout the world as the site of the greatest naval engagement in world history, which took place in the straits between the island and the mainland in 480 B.C. There, the Greek victory over Persian despotism assured the salvation, flourishing and expansion of Greek civilization to the West, and to the of the world.
Transportation
The transportation is dense. Per 15 minutes departs a small sea boat or ferry boat from Perama (duration 15 ‘) to Paloykia and reversely. Also exists the line Paloykia – Piraeus (duration 45 ‘). The line of Ferry boat is not interrupted through the night. Line of Ferry boat exists even from faneromeni in new Peramo (per 30 minutes, duration of 3 minutes). The transportation in the island is arranged by buses (KTEL) for each village as well as by taxis.

THE CACHE
The cache is located at the top of the hill of Profitis Elias where the homonymous chapel is located.
From the parking lot, there is a hiking trail, uphill 400 meters with several steps.
From the top you have a 360 degree view of the area
The box is small and cylindrical. Please be discreet when finding it.
If there is a crowd, photologists are also accepted near the zero point of your GPS or Mobile in the App with the view in the background.
Γενικά για την Σαλαμίνα
Η Σαλαμίνα είναι το μεγαλύτερο νησί του Σαρωνικού και το πιο κοντινό στις ακτές της Αττικής. Απέχει ανατολικά από το πέραμα, 1200 μέτρα και βορειοδυτικά από τις ακτές της Μεγαρίδας, 500 μέτρα. Έχει έκταση 93,5 τ. χλμ., μήκος ακτών περίπου 100 χλμ. και πληθυσμό 37.088.
Πατρίδα του ομηρικού Αίαντα και του μεγάλου τραγικού Ευριπίδη, τόπος διαμονής και δημιουργίας του ποιητή Άγγελου Σικελιανού και φιλοξενίας του Γεωργίου Καραϊσκάκη, η Σαλαμίνα είναι ευρύτερα γνωστή στην παγκόσμια ιστορία για τη μεγαλύτερη Ναυμαχία των αιώνων, που έγινε στο στενό της το 480 π.Χ. , από την έκβαση της οποίας, με νίκη των Ελλήνων, διασώθηκε και αναπτύχθηκε ο ελληνικός πολιτισμός και διαδόθηκε στη Δύση και στον κόσμο.
Συγκοινωνία
Η συγκοινωνία είναι πυκνή. Ανά 15’ λεπτά φεύγει πλοιάριο (Βενζινάκι) ή φεριμπότ από το Πέραμα (διάρκεια 15’) για Παλούκια και αντίστροφα. Επίσης υπάρχει και η γραμμή Παλούκια – Πειραιάς (διάρκεια 45’). Η γραμμή Φεριμπότ δεν διακόπτεται την νύχτα. Γραμμή Φεριμπότ υπάρχει ακόμα από τη Φανερωμένη στη Νέα Πέραμο (διάρκεια διαδρομής 3’). Η συγκοινωνία στο νησί γίνεται με λεωφορεία (ΚΤΕΛ) για κάθε οικισμό καθώς και από άφθονα ταξί.

Η ΚΡΥΠΤΗ
Η κρύπτη είναι τοποθετημένη στην κορυφή του λόφυ του Προφήτη Ηλία στον οποίο βρίσκεται και το ομόνυμο εξωκλήσι
Από το σημείο του Παρκινκ, ξεκινάει πεζοπορικό μονοπάτι, ανηφορικό 400 μέτρων με αρκετά σκαλιά .
Από την κορυφή έχετε θέα 360 μοιρών της περιοχής
Το κουτί είναι μικρό και κυλινδρικό. Παρακαλώ να είστε διακριτικοί κατά την εύρεσή του.
Αν έχει κόσμο γίνονται δεκτά φωτολογκ κοντά στο σημείο μηδέν με το GPS σας ή το Κινητό στο App με φόντο την θέα.
