Dad and I decided to start a series of caches dedicated to the “dangers of the guardrails” Many times we all like to rush to get the find and during this excitement we usually for get to look before you grab, we would like through this series to create awareness of the local wildlife that usually make their home on or near the cache that is hidden within the rail.
The puss caterpillar is known as one of the most venomous caterpillars in the world, even though it looks like a fluffy toupee. These venomous caterpillars eventually grow into harmless southern flannel moths, but breeding season brings thousands of them to Florida each year. All of those cute little hairs are actually venomous barbs that often stick into the skin when touched, and their venom can be extremely painful. When in Florida, try not to pet any of the "cute" caterpillars you may stumble upon.
