This series is dedicated to the first 20 years of geocaching and celebrating the community it created around the world. 

 

The caches in this series should be pretty easy finds. The fun part should be reading the fun facts and historical notes on each page.

As always, be safe and watch out for nature’s hazards like wild animals, snakes, poisonous plants, and stinging critters.

In 2011:

 

The ET Highway power trail returned with some changes. Businesses in the area (such as Rachel, NV) successfully lobbied for the caches to be active because of the boost to local businesses from geocachers.

 

The Shambles, the road in Wetherby, Yorkshire, England, was the site of a controlled explosion on a geocache container in 2011 which was mistakenly perceived to be a bomb.

 

Alamogul became the first geocaching account to log 60,000 finds.

 

Team Snook became the first geocaching account to log 20,000 finds in a year.

 

 Space shuttle Discovery began its final orbital flight after launching from the Kennedy Space Center.

 

 Hot Wheels was inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.

 

 Osama bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda and mastermind behind the September 11 terror attacks, was killed by American soldiers in Pakistan.

 

Dan Wheldon won the Indy 500. He was driving car was #98.

Trevor Bayne became the youngest ever winner of the Daytona 500. 

NBA Champions were the Dallas Mavericks.

The Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl.

The St. Louis Cardinals  won the World Series.

Stanley Cup Champs were the New York Rangers.

 

Of the world’s four billion mobile phones, one billion were smartphones.

 

Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion in cash.

 

Oscar Mayer Bacon was $6.49 for a one-pound package.

Wonder Bread was $3.69 for a 20-ounce loaf.

Kellogg’s Corn Flakes cost 3.79 for a 12-ounce box.

Lay’s Classic Potato chips were $4.29 for a 10-ounce package.
