I am placing this cache so that more poeple will visit and appreciate this lovely Waterfall and Footbridge, and to highlight an initiative which will permanently illuminate the historic waterfall in the industrial center of Methuen with vivid colors. The color-scape will be designed by local artists to bring new life and periodic Light The Falls events to this natural treasure in the heart of Methuen.
The project will include innovative architectural and landscape LED spotlights with intelligent colored lights programmable to many different designs. A public art platform, Light the Falls events will draw the community to visit the Falls to attend multi-cultural and multi-art performances in collaboration with the local artists and nature.
Illuminating the Spicket Falls will animate this underutilized public space, rejuvenating the surrounding streetscapes and enhancing community identity. This project will add a ‘pop’ to the revitalization of downtown Methuen, and become a special regional attraction in Essex County. It will draw attention to the Falls, establishing a symbol for the city. The project will create opportunities for artists and others to enhance the region’s creative economy through artistic light design and performances. So far a $25,000 grant from the Essex County Community Foundation has been awarded to fund this project, with a soft launch planned for the Fall of 2021. Methuen Arts, The Arts Institute Group of the Merrimack Valley, Lam Partners, Olson Electric, the City of Methuen and others are partnering on this project.
