This cache is placed to commemorate the former Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Alexander Henry now moored lakeside on Lake Superior under the care of the Lakehead Transportation Museum Society. This vessel was built in Thunder Bay (Port Arthur) by the Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co in 1958-59 and named after an earlier fur trader/explorer Alexander Henry (1739-1824). The Henry serviced the Great Lakes as light icebreaker and supply and buoy tender for 26 years untilled decommissioned in 1985.
This cache is located on LTMS property with their permission. The vessel is open during summer months and you are welcome to come in and learn more of this ships story.
