There was a clear lack of geocaches in and around Aria and since I have family history there, I decided to remedy that.
Aria lies within the rohe of Ngāti Maniapoto and was part of the lands occupied by Kīngitanga between 1866 and 1882. The township of Aria was formed by the government as a Special Settlement in 1903 with European settlers soon moving into the area which grew strongly in the first decades of the twentieth century.
