This cache is in memory of Mr. John Bertram Crafton who perished in the tragic sinking of The Titanic. Although his body was never recovered, you will find a stone for him and his family at the posted coordinates. It is interesting that he had the stone placed just a week before the tragedy occured.
On the night of April 14th, 1912, at approximately 11:30 pm, the Titanic struck an iceberg. Before help could arrive the ship sank at approximately 2:20 am on the morning of April 15th, 1912. Because there was a shortage of lifeboats and lack of satisfactory emergency procedures, more than 1,500 people went down in the sinking ship or froze to death in the icy North Atlantic waters. Among them was Mr. Crafton.
