Localización
La Ermita de San Rafael Arcángel -o la Capelleta, como cariñosamente se la conoce en la población- se levanta en una amplia explanada adornada con palmeras y otro arbolado en el centro urbano de La Nucia, terreno ligeramente elevado delimitado por el carrer y la travessia de l'Ermita.
Historia y Conservación
El actual edificio de la ermita fue construido en 1888 y vino a sustituir a un templo anterior, ya existente al menos a principios del siglo XIX, situado en un emplazamiento cercano y que hubo de ser derribado por la construcción de una carretera.
Tanto la ermita como la imagen que en ella se venera son muy queridas por los nucieros, que con frecuentes rehabilitaciones y reformas, algunas de ellas en fechas recientes, mantienen capilla y entorno -que incluye una amplia zona ajardinada con dotaciones recreativas- en perfecto estado.
Descripción
La Capelleta es un edificio exento de mediano tamaño con sus paramentos pintados en color claro salvo las esquinas, vanos y zócalo donde se han dejado los sillares a la vista. Al exterior resaltan los diversos volúmenes de los contrafuertes, sacristía, capillas laterales y el crucero con su cúpula de tejas sobre tambor. Lo más llamativo son, sin embargo, las dos torres gemelas situadas a ambos lados de la fachada con sus cuerpos inferiores formando parte de ella mientras que los superiores, rematados con terraza plana y adornos de jarrones, se destinan a campanarios. Uno de ellos alberga la campana bautizada Sant Roc, fundida hacia mediados del siglo XVI, mientras que la otra, llamada Rafaela, data de 1941 [1]. Ambas fueron restauradas en el año 2004. La fachada, orientada a levante, remata en frontón triangular en el que se abre una hornacina de medio punto con pilastras y entablamento que acoge una imagen del arcángel titular. La amplia portada de grandes sillares es recta y adintelada.

Al interior se observa su planta de cruz latina con piso de baldosas blancas y negras, capillas laterales entre los contrafuertes y cúpula sobre tambor con ventanas en el crucero. Nave y capillas se cubren con bóveda de cañón al igual que el tramo recto del presbiterio, mientras que la cabecera circular lo hace con bóveda de cuarto de esfera. Allí se abre entre columnas la hornacina rectangular para la imagen de San Rafael Arcángel, notable talla realizada por el prestigioso imaginero José M" Ponsoda Bravo (1882-1963) que tiene la peculiaridad de mostrar al santo vestido de peregrino y como protector de viajantes.
Fiestas y Tradiciones
El tercer fin de semana de noviembre tienen lugar las fiestas patronales en honor a San Rafael y al Santísimo Sacramento, que conmemoran la fundación de la parroquia de La Nucia segregada de la de Polop. El domingo es el día dedicado a Sant Rafel, que se celebra con misa en la ermita, subasta de las andas y cintas del santo -¡qué aún se realiza en pesetas!-, procesión por las calles de la población y uno de los momentos más esperados y espectaculares: el retorno de la imagen a su capelleta portada en volandas cuesta arriba a ritmo de una traca que explota durante todo el recorrido.
Location
The Hermitage of San Rafael Arcángel -or La Capelleta, as it is affectionately known in the population- stands on a wide esplanade adorned with palm trees and another tree-lined area in the urban center of La Nucia, slightly elevated terrain delimited by the carrer and the travessia de l'Ermita.
History and Conservation
The current hermitage building was built in 1888 and replaced a previous temple, already existing at least at the beginning of the 19th century, located in a nearby location and which had to be demolished due to the construction of a road.

Both the hermitage and the image that is venerated in it are much loved by the nuciers, who with frequent renovations and reforms, some of them recently, maintain a chapel and environment -which includes a large garden area with recreational facilities- in perfect condition.
Description
La Capelleta is a medium-sized free-standing building with its walls painted in light color except for the corners, openings and plinth where the ashlars have been exposed. The exterior highlights the various volumes of the buttresses, sacristy, side chapels and the transept with its dome of tiles on a drum. The most striking are, however, the two twin towers located on both sides of the façade with their lower bodies forming part of it, while the upper ones, topped with a flat terrace and vase ornaments, are used as bell towers. One of them houses the bell named Sant Roc, cast in the middle of the 16th century, while the other, called Rafaela, dates from 1941 [1]. Both were restored in 2004. The façade, oriented to the east, ends in a triangular pediment in which a semicircular niche opens with pilasters and an entablature that houses an image of the titular archangel. The wide portal of large ashlars is straight and lintelled.

Inside you can see its Latin cross plan with a floor of black and white tiles, side chapels between the buttresses and a dome on a drum with windows in the transept. Nave and chapels are covered with a barrel vault as well as the straight section of the presbytery, while the circular apse is covered with a quarter-sphere vault. There the rectangular niche opens between columns for the image of San Rafael Arcángel, a remarkable carving made by the prestigious image maker José M "Ponsoda Bravo (1882-1963) that has the peculiarity of showing the saint dressed as a pilgrim and as a protector of travelers.

Holidays and traditions
On the third weekend of November, the patron saint festivities in honor of San Rafael and the Blessed Sacrament take place, which commemorate the founding of the parish of La Nucia, segregated from that of Polop. Sunday is the day dedicated to Sant Rafel, which is celebrated with mass in the hermitage, auction of the litters and ribbons of the saint - which is still done in pesetas! -, procession through the streets of the town and one of the moments most anticipated and spectacular: the return of the image to its chapel covered flying uphill to the rhythm of a fireworks that explodes throughout the journey.
