Utworzony 29 lipca 1938r. rezerwat jest jednym z najbardziej wartościowych obiektów przyrodniczych w Polsce. Obejmuje on 121,91 ha we wschodniej zalesionej części wysoczyzny Kępy Redłowskiej wraz z klifem i plażą. Celem ochrony jest zachowanie unikatowego krajobrazu urwistego wybrzeża z kompleksem lasów bukowych, specyficznych procesów przyrodniczych abrazji i sukcesji naturalnych zbiorowisk roślinnych oraz rzadkich gatunków flory, fauny i grzybów, a zwłaszcza jarzębu szwedzkiego lac. Sorbus intemedial bedącego reliktem epoki lodowcowej. Kępa Redłowska jest najstarszym w województwie pomorskim wyiątkowym rezerwatem w pobliżu centrum miasta, umożliwia obserwacje procesów zachodzących nieprzerwanie na styku lądu i morza.

Created on July 29, 1938. the reserve is one of the most valuable natural sites in Poland. It covers 121.91 ha in the forested eastern part of the Kępa Redłowska plateau with a cliff and a beach. The aim of protection is to preserve the unique landscape of the rugged coast with a complex of beech forests, specific natural processes of abrasion, and succession of natural plant communities as well as rare species of flora, fauna, and fungi, especially the Swedish rowan. Sorbus intemedial being a relic of the Ice Age. Kępa Redłowska is the oldest unique reserve in the Pomeranian region near the city center, it enables the observation of continuous processes at the interface between land and sea.
