BITS AND BOBS OF BOGNOR - THE FACTORY GATES
One of a few bits and bobs for you to find around Bognor Regis.
This is a simple but muggly cache and dash with plenty of parking close by! Unless you're visiting in "unsociable hours" you will have to be very sneaky to avoid being caught in the act of finding this little cache. Don't forget your tweezers and pen, and please replace carefully in its hiding place!
The cache is placed at the former factory gates, set up as the only remaining feature of the refrigeration factory, which in the 1980s employed around 1,600 people in Bognor on this site. Many local homes were built for the workforce. The site is now part of a fairly recent retail development, but the airfield still exists across the railway, initially owned and used by the Purley family who founded the company. Bognor Gliding Club now operates from the airfield, which can be accessed via a footbridge behind the building superstore.
Two notice boards at this location give more information about the company and its history.
Please replace the cache exactly where you found it, thank you!
