Lutterworth Railway Station opened on 15th March 1899 and closed on 5th May 1969.
Lutterworth was a a typical Great Central London Extension station with an island platform. The access was from beneath a bridge over a bridleway at the end of Station Road from where steps led up to the booking office at the south end of the platform. If you look to the left as you walk under the bridge, you can still see the bricked up arch.
The goods yard was sited on the down side of the line alongside the station and had an unusually large signalbox. The additional capacity in the lever frame indicated that the goods yard was expecting to have extra sidings added, but these never came.
The site of the goods yard is now occupied by Boundary Road and the station site is occupied by a housing estate (Marylebone Drive and Faringdon Avenue). An overgrown remnant of the platform survives on the bridge at the south end of the station. The stationmaster's house at the end of Station Road is now in private occupation. The cache is a large camouflaged tube with room for small swaps and TBs. Please ensure it is well hidden and that the lid is fully closed. The area under the bridge can get very muddy after heavy or persistent rain.
