Geocache Description:

Katherine of Aragon was Henry VIII's first wife. She had previously been married to Henry's elder brother, Arthur. When Henry VIII decided that he wanted to marry Anne Boleyn, this set off a whole series of events which created the split from the Roman Catholic church and the creation of the Church of England. For Katherine, however, it lead to her marriage to Henry being declared invalid in May 1533 and her becoming an exile within the country where she was Queen.

From July 1533 to May 1534 she resided at Buckden Towers. Until her death in 1536 she maintained that she was Henry's only one, true, wife and the rightful Queen of England. She was forbidden from seeing or even writing to her daughter, Mary (who would later be Queen Mary I) but sympathisers conveyed letters between them.

In the Adventure Lab "Queen Katherine's Message", you are given the task of helping the Queen get a message to Mary. This cache is a bonus reward for successfully finding all five stages of the Adventure Lab (which itself gives you five geocaching "finds"). Once you have completed the task and informed the Queen, you will be given the location of this treaure chest.

The Adventure Lab can be done on foot (about 5 miles as a round trip), bicycle or car. The Churches Conservation Trust publish a walk which largely mirrors the route (click here).

Queen Katherine's jewels are kept in this chest as well as goodies that you can take or swap. As you are a good and faithful servant, we are sure that you will leave the jewels as you find them.
