About Hampton Wick Station
Zone 6 station Hampton Wick was first opened in 1863, and serves the Kingston Loop line of South West London. Trains from London Waterloo travel south west through Wimbledon and New Malden and arrive at Hampton Wick after first visiting Kingston. Trains continue on through the next station (Teddington) and on to London Waterloo through Twickenham and Barnes. The line was electrified by the L&SWR on the third rail system at 630 V DC in 1916. Since its opening on 1st July 1863, it was later reconstructed in 1969 as a result of greater demand. It is currently categorised as a DfT 'D', or a 'medium staffed' station, indicating that it is only intermittently staffed. The station itself is 12 miles 44 chains from central London.
The plans for Crossrail 2 extend through this line, connecting the station through central London to New Southgate (via Alexandra Palace and Seven Sisters) and Broxbourne (via Tottenham Hale and Cheshunt). The line will continue south west past the Greater London border to Shepperton.
