This series is in honor of our Great Uncle Herbie. Herb's family settled in South Kitsap in the mid-1930s. He was born in Bremerton in 1939 and spent his whole life in Port Orchard, aside from college (CWU) and military service (USN). If you knew Herb, you loved Herb. He certainly has left a legacy for us to carry on.
All caches are hidden in or around locations that had special significance in Herb's life.
If you drive down Mitchell Ave., you cant miss South Kitsap High School. Herb spent his high school years here, graduating in 1958. His brother followed shortly after, graduating in 1964. Herb has had several family members follow in his footsteps by becoming South Kitsap Alumni. Go Wolves!
The original South Kitsap High School was built at the same location in 1921. The existing addition was added in 1962. The most recent update was in 1980.
If you’ve ever hidden a cache, you know that sometimes it’s hard to fine the perfect spot. We settled on this location because it is about mid-way between the high school and another one of Herbie’s favorite spots, Hi-Joy Bowl. In fact, if you were to walk from one to the other, you’d pass right by this sneaky cache. Approach from Mitchell Ave and there is a spot to park and make a quick grab (hopefully).
