[ENG] If you happen to spot a large seagoing vessel while searching the cache, take a photo and add it to your log entry along with the time. Try to identify the ship's name by checking the information below or the images in the gallery. This task is optional and you can log this cache without including any photos.
Lauttasaari is not only a good place for birdwatching. As Lauttasaari's Ryssänkärki is close to Länsisatama (West Harbour) you can frequently spot larger passenger ships sailing by.
Cruise ferries going to Tallinn can be seen most frequently. A single ship does up to three roundtrips on the same day. Also St. Petersburg ferries leave from Länsisatama, while Stockholm ferries go to Eteläsatama (South Harbour).
In summertime also up to three cruise ships per day can visit Länsisatama. You usually see them arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon, allowing tourists to spend the day in Helsinki.
Occasionally also coal carries can be spotted bringing fuel for the power plant in Salmisaari, and the research vessel of the Finnish Environment Institue has its home base in Ruoholahti's Tammasaarenlaituri.
Among the most rare sights are one-time visitors calling the Helsinki Shipyard in Hietalahti.
For information about the closeby winter swimming place, please see the archived caches GC41APM Humaus (2012) and GC7N7GP Humaus 2 (2018).
