A little walk in the woods at Mary S. Young Park
Cache is not at the posted coordinates. Please leave the stamp in the container. Read on to locate the cache container. The walk to the final location is <0.25mi and should take less than 15 minutes.
This is a letterbox hybrid cache in the true sense of a letterbox. Letterboxing is an outdoor hobby similar to geocaching, but without the GPS technology. Originating in the United Kingdom in the 1850s, letterboxing uses written clues to direct finders to the location of the hidden container. A stamp is kept in each letterbox container for the finder to stamp in their personal logbook; and letterbox finders carry their own stamp to mark the logbook inside the letterbox. Letterboxing is very much a precursor to geocaching. So for this letterbox hybrid cache, you will follow written instructions to locate the cache container.
Many letterbox hybrid caches in our area are simply "traditional" caches, where the cache container is at the posted coordinates. However, outside our area, more letterbox hybrid caches are developed and found in the long-established method of letterboxing. If you enjoy this type of letterbox hybrid, you may also want to visit Fir Bough, GC4AJX9. If you know of others in the area, let me know and I will add them to this page as well. I enjoy this type of letterbox hybrid more than just another "traditional". I hope you do, too!
Start your hunt for the cache container at the posted coordinates where you will find information about Mary S. Young who, with her husband, donated this property for a park to the State of Oregon in the 1960s. Head down the paved path to the east until you come to a Y in the trail. At the fork, Eric tells you to take a right and continue down the path toward the river. When you come to a T in the paved path, Logan instructs you to turn left. Follow the paved path until you come to another Y, this time with an unpaved trail off to the right. This path is Cedar Grove Trail. Take this trail until you approach a bit of a wider opening with a park bench on your left. As you pass the bench, Gloria, Jim, and Jimmy indicate that you should take the next left on the trail. Make that turn to the left and take just a few steps down the hill. Before the trail makes another left downhill toward a couple of switchbacks that head down to Riverside Loop Trail, leave the trail and walk forward toward the stump next to a tree. You will find the container in that stump. See spoiler photo, if necessary.
