Geocache Description:

The cache is at the listed coordinates.

To log this cache, you will need to first fulfill the requirements.

The rating of this cache is based on relative difficulty to gain the caches for this challenge.

We have been considering a cache related to elevation.  We decided on this idea - a challenge cache for cache finds at the highest elevation and the lowest elevation.

The extreme elevation finds must be traditional land caches.  There are a number of virtual-type caches, underwater and mystery caches that record fantastical elevations impossible for any physical land cache hide.  As of this writing, the highest elevation active cache is Aconcagua – The White Sentinel (GC45E08) in Argentina sitting at a cozy 22,762 feet (6909 meters) above sea level. The cache is rated at 5/5. It has been found 5 times since being planted in 2013 by drevorubac.  The lowest elevation active cache is LP Ein Gedi Dead Sea, Earth's lowest point on land (GC4QD7Z) found in Israel [or whomever is claiming that area today].  It is rated at 2/2 and is listed at 1,341 feet below sea level.

To Claim This Challenge

To claim this challenge, you need to have found at least one physical land cache at or above 10,000 feet sea level and at least one physical land cache 200 feet below sea level. In California, we are fortunate enough to have both extremes at or near drive-up parking. Also, there are a number of 10,000+ feet caches throughout the world. The following is a list of places 200 feet below sea level:Dead Sea Depression (Israel, Jordan, Syria); Afar Depression (Djibouti, Ethopia and Eritrea, Africa); Turfan Depression (China); Qattara Depression (Egypt); Karagiye Depression (Kazakstan); San Julian’s Great Depression (Argentina); Death Valley (California, USA); Akdzhakaya Depression (Turkmenstan); Salton Trough (California, USA and Mexico)

List the cache GC code, cache name and the dates you found your two extreme elevation caches.  Convert meters to feet in any case.

You can sign the cache log at any time even if you don’t yet meet the challenge requirements. Please post a note on the date you signed the log so your signature can be linked later to your challenge claim.

There is a challenge checker below.  It will verify you meet the minimum requirements.  Accuracy Alert: Project-GC has a known problem with bad elevation data especially with some caches below sea level. Every reasonable effort will be made to authenicate your challenge qualification.

PGC Checker

We will record the 3 top extreme elevation range finds listed for the “bragging rights” of this challenge.  The list will be dynamic so if you placed in the top three, return here to ensure you are maintaining your rank.  Additionally, you can post updates of new and more extreme elevation finds to improve you ranking for this cache.  Our current High-Low Elevation range is 15,348 feet.

3 Top Most Extreme Elevation ranges

  1. GeoBrosOXPC, 16,887 ft range
  2. KendraH, 15,738 ft range
  3. Nozy Nabor 15,351 ft. range (tied)
  4. Alamogul  15,351 ft. range (tied)

Congratulations to KendraH for FTF in this completed challenge.

Note: The difficulty rating was moved to 4.5 after seeing how few geocachers have finds lower than 200 feet below sea level.
