Geocache Description:

Hello there, Geocastaway!
Before you get started, here's a shoutout from the winner of Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X: Adam Klein.

This is Episode 02 of the Survivor: Pearl Islands trilogy, the 2nd season of my Geocache Survivor Series.

This season, geocastaways get to be pirates in search for gold hidden along the expedition of some of the most famous explorers, after whom the tribes of Survivor: Pearl Islands were named. In addition, FTF pirate can actually claim the gold at GZ.

NOTE: For traditional geocachers, GZ is revealed at the end of this page.

Credits to CBS Show Survivor.

For the geocastaways of tribe DRAKE:

  • Sir Francis Drake was an English explorer, sea captain, slave trader, privateer, naval officer, and politician, and is best known for his circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 to 1580. (From Wikipedia)
  • The waypoints represent eight of the major stops of Drake's circumnavigation; however, only ONE represents the location of the hidden treasure.

ROLES:

  • Be a Circumnavigator and pillage all expedition sites
  • Or a Historian who first examines Sir Francis Drake's expedition for hints of the location of the gold
  • Or a Cartographer, a map specialist, who analyses terrains and locations (See cartographer's riddle)
  • Or a Treasure Hunter who derives the treasure's location from hints from the past (See Drake's riddle)

Cartographer's Riddle:

  • Circumnavigate your way to the top and use the location as the cartographer's reference point.

Drake's Riddle:

  • Field Puzzle
  • The Strait of Magellan, a historical passage attempted by Drake after staying for the winter in San Julian, is considered the most important natural passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It was discovered and first traversed by the Spanish expedition of Ferdinand Magellan in 1520, after whom it is named. (From Wikipedia).
  • Begin your circumnavigation from the published coordinates and look for the "Strait of Magellan".
  • Note that the container described in this riddle is NOT the actual cache but just a hint cache. However, hint cache FTF can claim a bonus treasure hunter's reward. Please do LOG when you have claimed the bonus reward.

“There must be a beginning of any great matter, but the continuing unto the end until it be thoroughly finished yields the true glory."

NOTES:

  • Like most mystery caches, the physical container is NOT at the published coordinates. It is however, a significant landmark that can be used as a reference point to determine the GZ.
  • The container is a micro, so please do BYOP.
  • This quest is NOT recommended to be done at night.
  • Since this location is under Sydney Olympic Park Authority, please DO NOT enter areas off pathways and structures such as boardwalks.
  • Unfortunately, DOGS are NOT allowed in the GZ (Sorry in advance Zelda!).
  • The loot can be accessed along designated pathways/structures for visitors and is NOT placed in trees or other living things in the GZ.
  • For the Pirate's riddle: please do not remove the gold from the "Strait of Magellan". Because of the recent muggle pirate incident, if you firmly believe that the muggle pirates have plundered the "Strait of Magellan", please head to the Muggle Pirates Incident section at the end of the page.

LOGGING REQUESTS:

  • Please do log the ROLE (circumnavigator, historian, cartographer, or treasure hunter) you assumed in order to get to the right location.
  • Please do log if you have claimed the gold or the treasure hunter's bonus reward.
  • Please do NOT log direct spoilers (e.g. correct waypoint) but feel free to add your own cryptic clues.
  • Be as creative as you want. I love reading your logs (you know who you are *wink* *wink*).

FTF:

  • The "Intrepid Trio" (Brewmaker, The Bebes, EverestHigh) has claimed the gold!

HINTS and SPOILERS!

  • At the base of Bay Marker, there is a staircase which has the same steps as the "Strait of Magellan". Each step corresponds to a letter that forms the answer (correct waypoint's name). Some steps have been marked with land markers on the left. See image below to view the locations of the markers:
  • REVEAL.

I am a traditional geocacher and I agree to reveal the GZ for this cache:
